Our Story
My Sister’s House began long before our doors opened. It began in a home filled with warmth, where the kettle was always on, the table was never empty, and everyone—family, friend, or stranger—was welcomed like a sister. That home belonged to Leyla.
Roots of Sardasht
My Sister’s House began in a home filled with warmth, where the kettle was always on and the table was never empty. In 2004, Leyla arrived in the UK from Sardasht in Eastern Kurdistan, carrying more than recipes. She brought a deep-rooted belief in hospitality as a way of life—where food is love, and gathering is sacred.
Over the years, her home in Cardiff became a place people gravitated toward. Not just for her unforgettable dishes, but for how she made people feel: seen, cared for, and at ease. It was here that the seeds for My Sister’s House were planted.
Resilience & Hope
Life wasn’t without its challenges. As a single mother raising three children, Leyla balanced responsibility with ambition, resilience with hope. Every obstacle shaped her, strengthening her belief that she could build something meaningful—not just for her family, but for her community.
Adapting & Learning
Her first step into the restaurant world didn’t go as planned. But where others might have stopped, Leyla chose to learn. She reflected, adapted, and quietly prepared for something greater.
2024: A Dream Realized
That something became My Sister’s House. Opened in 2024 with her sister Frishteh, the café is a reflection of everything they believe in. The name says it all—it’s not just a place to eat, it’s a place to belong. Frishteh’s thoughtful design brings warmth into every corner, while Leyla’s cooking carries generations of tradition to every plate.
